The government has announced that they will issue grants of up to £600,000 to charities in the UK that have a scheme to support women with reproductive health issues. The grants are aimed at supporting women who want to return or remain working whilst suffering from health issues that include menopause, miscarriage, period problems, fertility issues, pregnancy, and gynaecological cancers.
Research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in partnership with Bupa found that almost a million women had left their jobs in the UK because of menopausal symptoms.
The fund aims to ensure that women feel supported in the workplace, taboos are broken down through open conversation, and employers feel well equipped to support women with their health in the workplace.
This support is long overdue but is being welcomed by charities, Janet Lindsay, chief executive of Wellbeing of Women, says any initiative that can help support women and keep them in work must be welcomed.
These grants will be issued to 15 to 20 charities before the end of 2025.
