Maintaining a good work-life balance is about setting boundaries between your workday and your home life. It’s important to look after yourself during both, but just as important to keep them separate. We have compiled a list of our most helpful tips!
- Let go of perfectionism – Perfectionism in the workplace is near impossible, and striving for it consistently will lead to burnout. Sure, you should put a lot of effort into your work, however striving for everything to be perfect, and overthinking every task will lead to you taking stress and anxiety home.
- Set boundaries – Communicating with your managers and colleagues and saying no to things that will harm your work-life balance is very important. You are not required to work longer than your contracted hours, and whilst sometimes you may want to help out, it’s important to be able to say no if you need to.
- Unplug – Continuing to check your work emails after the work day is another road to burnout. Reading these emails in your free time can leave you feeling stressed out, and feeling like your life revolves around work. Make sure you turn off those notifications when you’re finished!
- Exercise & meditate – exercise and meditation are both very effective stress reducers, making time for both of these will help you to shut off after work, and help to eliminate any lingering stress.
- Don’t live for the weekend – yes, the weekends are a great time to socialise, especially for late-night plans, however to avoid burnout, it’s also important to enjoy your weekday evenings. Whether you read a book, bake cookies, indulge in skincare, or go out to dinner, enjoying time away from screens is vital to maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
